For those who have made the decision to "work from home" while traveling, Digital Nomad is the term we give ourselves. It allows many people to see new locations and/or settle down long term in new locations. Many end up meeting their romantic partners and/or traveling with existing partners. It can be an interesting lifestyle for the long term travel lover.
When it comes to any type of long term travel, cost of living must be taken into consideration.
You can always visit numbeo.com to get a feel of any location's cost of living.
I personally feel that you should base your travel budget on what you're currently spending in your home country for Rent, Utilities, Transportation, Food, and MISC. You can then break down your travel budget for Asia.
Here is a Sample Monthly Travel Budget for a Comfortable stay in Asia...
Accommodation (Hotel, Hostel, Vacation Rental)
$30-$70 a night Max
* You can always be flexible in your budget if you want to stay really fancy. *
Food (Eating Out, Delivery, Groceries)
$300 - $600 Max ($10 -$20 a day)
Transportation (Ride Shares, Taxis, Rental Cars, Private Drivers)
The Low Budget Max would be around $1300 a month.
** Of course you can always find ways to spend much less than $1300 a month in Asia.
I just wanted to provide some examples for existing and future Digital Nomads. :)
